Thinking about a career change

Hello Everyone,

I have a few questions about a career path. I have been recently laid off by WorldCom as a Telecom Tech 2, I was working with Optical Transport Equipment and it seems that no one is hiring at the present time. I was going to take some classes at the local college toward my MCSE but the counselors seem to think that I could just get the books and teach myself and then go take my test. I need to start working again, I am board out of my mind. But I am not sure that would the fastest way for me to start working again. Any suggestions....
