Setting up my home network - Please Advise

Hi Everyone,

I am currently running two pc's at home. One with Win2K Pro and the other with Win2k Server. They are currently networked via a crossover cable. I am trying to setup a Domain on the Server and run the Pro machine as a client, but for some strange reason I just cannot get this right.

For starters, I have installed and configured the Server as a DC and I have installed Active Directory and DHCP. Last night, I created a new user in AD Users and Computers and when I tried to log in as that user from the Pro machine it just said unable to log on, invalid user name etc...

Do I need to register a domain account with an ISP to create this real life simulation? Does the fact that I have used a crossover cable instead of a hub hinder this operation?

Also, when I go into my network places and go into entire network, I can only see a workgroup that is listed, obviously my domain is not up and running. This has just confused me alot!!
