to be or not to be 297 vs 298

Trying to read responses on here and other sites about which exam would be a nice fit into my life, the 297 or 298.

I heard the 297 is 4 timed case studies, long winded and a time consuming. One poster said it helped understand large corporate thinking.

Ok.

Then I hear 298 is "easier" because it is more like an exam and a prelude to MCSE-Security with the 299.

So I'm thinking, take the easier exam and then take the 299 later to broaden my portfolio and so on.

After writing 5 exams, (failed one), so 6 exams so to speak, I'm looking for a nice breather, but at the same time beneficial.

Meaning, if 297 is a story, I can read that in my spare time. Does it benefit one in real life taking this exam - more or less is what I'm asking.
